Wheels & Waffles: The Ghent Tour — A Weekend to Remember

In 3–5 May 2025, the Veloce Club took to the open road for an unforgettable long weekend: Wheels & Waffles; The Ghent Tour. It was three days of riding, laughter, good food, and that unmistakable feeling of freedom that only comes from a weekend spent on two wheels.

🏍️ The Journey Begins

We kicked things off early on Friday morning, meeting at the Le Shuttle terminal - a mix of familiar faces and new members eager for their first overseas adventure.

We made our introductions and had the obligatory ride brief. Richard as Ride Leader, Matt as Tail End Charlie (TEC) and James as team photographer. As the engines started up and the Channel crossing awaited, there was an infectious buzz of anticipation in the air.

For many riders, this was their first time riding abroad, exactly as the event was designed - relaxed, well-organised, and confidence-building. To help everyone prepare - we created a list of items that are good for travelling abroad:  https://www.veloceclub.co.uk/collections/motorcycle-touring

Once across into Belgium, the pace slowed to that perfect touring rhythm: sweeping country roads, spring sunshine and plenty of photo stops along the way (photos courtesy of James).

🧇 Wheels, Waffles, and Warm Company

By the time we reached Ghent, the weekend had already begun to live up to its name. Between the café stops and waffle breaks, there was no shortage of good humour and camaraderie. Saturday’s full-day ride explored the Flemish countryside, winding through quiet villages and open farmland before returning to the cobbled charm of Ghent’s historic centre.

The evenings were just as memorable — good food, Belgian beer, and shared stories from the day’s miles. The hotel car park transformed into an impromptu bike show each night, with everyone admiring each other’s machines and trading setup tips over a drink.

📸 Capturing the Vibe

The photos told the story better than words ever could.
From the group line-ups and breakfast meet-ups to the waffle-fuelled pit stops, the Veloce Club Instagram feed captured the energy perfectly.

  • Post 1 showed riders lined up under bright skies, ready to roll into Belgium.

  • Post 2 captured that classic “touring together” moment — smiles, helmets off, waffles in hand, the kind of scene that sums up what the Veloce Club is all about.

🌤️ The Perfect Mix

The Ghent Tour wasn’t about speed or competition — it was about shared experience. The mix of seasoned riders and first-timers created a supportive, easy-going atmosphere. No one was left behind, and every route was designed to be enjoyable rather than intimidating.

The roads were smooth, the scenery stunning, and the stops frequent enough to keep everyone comfortable. By Sunday’s ride home, spirits were high despite a few tired legs. There was that quiet satisfaction you only get after a weekend well spent — good roads, good people, good memories.

🧳 Lessons and Highlights

A few takeaways from the trip:

  • Riding abroad is far less daunting when done together.

  • Waffles genuinely do make great mid-ride fuel.

  • Ghent’s mix of canals, cobbles and café culture makes it the perfect two-wheel destination.

  • At Veloce Club we know how to balance adventure with comfort and fun.

🏁 Looking Back

Wheels & Waffles; The Ghent Tour wasn’t just another ride — it was an introduction to European touring for many and a reminder for all of why we ride in the first place.

As one member put it, “It felt like a road trip with friends you just hadn’t met yet.” - James
