The Pike Brothers 1938 Pea Coat is a timeless classic with deep maritime roots, inspired by the heavy-duty naval coats worn by sailors and marines around the world since the 18th century.

A Classic Built for the Elements

Originally associated with Dutch seafarers, the pea coat was designed to withstand the harsh conditions of life at sea. The name is thought to derive from the Dutch word pije, referring to a coat made from heavy, durable wool. Over time, its robust construction and practical design saw the pea coat adopted by naval forces and workwear traditions across the world.

Pike Brothers has stayed true to this heritage with the 1938 Pea Coat, producing it in the same substantial wool quality that characterised the originals. The coat is made from 100% virgin wool weighing 1000 g/m², specially woven for Pike Brothers by a Portuguese mill using a traditional recipe. The exceptional weight and density of the fabric provide excellent protection against wind and rain, while giving the coat its distinctive structure, warmth and durability.

The classic design features an Ulster collar, double-breasted button fastening and traditional anchor buttons, with a subtly flared hip area that reflects the functional character of the original pea coats. Inside, the coat is finished with a durable lining made from 54% polyester and 46% viscose.
